A Bold Move: 79-year old champion bodybuilder competes against 40-, 50-, 60-year olds!

Amador County, CA, May 08, 2015 — /EPR SPORTS NEWS/ — A career spanning nearly 50 years isn’t over yet for Amador County veteran bodybuilder and one of the original Mr. Venice Beach competitors, Arthur Peacock. Peacock, who is turning 80 this year, takes the stage with 40-, 50-, and 60-year olds this Saturday, May 9 at the Contra Costa Bodybuilding Championship, to be held in the Chabot College Performing Arts Theatre.

“There is no doubt that this is a career turning point for me. It’s what I’ve been training for my entire life, but especially the last three years. I’ll have 60-seconds to prove myself—my physique and my poses—with competitors between 40 and 69. That’s potentially almost 40 years younger than me.”

Peacock chose to compete in three classes for a couple of reasons—no 70s bracket existed, and he has every intention of continuing his legacy to inspire others who want to follow their bodybuilding dreams.

“I want people to see me and say, ‘I can do that. Look at that guy up there at 80.’ I want to inspire to the end; I’ve done it all my life. I’ve had world champions come up to me and say, ‘I remember when you stopped and spoke to me as a teenager, and now, 20 years later, I’m the number one guy. Thank you.’”

It was in 1965, as an already athletic young man in his early 30s, an avid swimmer, surfer cyclist, and hiker, that Peacock went as a spectator with his friends to his first bodybuilding competition. “I knew I wanted to do that—that I could do that.” And that he did, taking home his first trophy in the 1968 Mr. Venice Beach competition, which gave rise to a half-century career with more than 50 major titles earned.

Alaskan Creatives Kickstart An Adventure iBook Project

Fairbanks residents and designers, John Schauer and Adele Wiejaczka, have launched a project to include 49 Alaskan Adventurers in a published iBook. The iBook will feature Alaskans whose lives are shaped by the wildest places in North America. Through this interactive and media-rich iBook, you will meet travelers of the arctic wilderness. Among the 49 Alaskans to be featured in the book are distance mushers Paige Drobny and Cody Strathe, class V whitewater paddlers Paul Schauer and Tim Johnson, ultra-distance specialists Tyler Johnson and Luc Mehl, alpinists Clint Helander and Jason Stuckey, and skier/mountaineer sisters Krista Heeringa and Heidi Rader.

Launched on the Kickstarter platform, the 49 Faces of Alaskan Adventure is raising funds for it’s publication at bit.ly/kick49faces. The Matchplay Championship Grand Final Gets Underway In Dubai

Tie at the top in the first-round of Men’s Pairs Final at The Els Club, while David and Tracy Morris storm ahead in Mixed Pairs.

The Matchplay Championship Grand Final, one of Europe’s largest amateur golf tournaments has got underway today at The Els Club, Dubai, with Jim Bishop and Michael Cunningham from Langdon Hills Golf & Country Club in Essex tied for the first-round lead with Chris Scott-Douglas and Mike Ankers from Bloxwich GC and Darnford Moors GC in the West Midlands. Both teams scored 41 points in the Men’s Pairs event in the better-ball stableford format. Meanwhile, David and Tracy Morris of Collingtree Park Golf Club, Northamptonshire have stormed ahead in the Mixed Pairs with 38, and Stuart James and Craig Sullivan in the non-active event with 35 points. Perfect weather conditions and an immaculate golf course has greeted the players, who entered the tournament for just £25 at www.matchplaychampionship.co.uk. Enjoying luxurious accommodation at the Marriott Dubai Harbour Hotel, the players are battling it out in front of Sky Sports cameras for the right to be named Matchplay Champions 2010/2011.

With the regular season winding down and teams fighting for playoff spots, Texas Heat Lacrosse launched its first ‘Heat Elite’ for the 2011 high school lacrosse season this week. The list, divided by upperclassmen and underclassmen, is compiled of the ‘best of the best’ in the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL). Pat Clark Motorsports would like to thank all of the fans that placed bids on the gear of AMA American Superbike racers Chris Clark and Ben Bostrom to benefit Rett Syndrome that recently concluded on Ebay.

The special edition leathers and bodywork made their AMA race debut at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca round of the AMA series and saw Ben Bostrom and Pat Clark Motorsports score their first win in the American Superbike class.

The auction began immediately following the SPEED telecast of the race on Sunday evening July 25 and concluded with over 2500 views and 60 bids on the gear.

During his 7 years of playing little league baseball, he earned and collected 2 M.V.P trophies as a pitcher. During his five years of playing little league football, he earned and collected 2 M.V.P. trophies as a quarterback. In Buder Gym, Brian Irons experienced the moment of signing his name on a few high school student’s books and papers, after displaying his skills playing basketball. In fighting, he holds a brilliant record of 8-0, with 8 knockdowns. In high school, Mr. Irons won the 1st place trophy in a dancing contest. This guy is amazing, and his story goes on and on and on and on.

Well, it’s like this; one day, Brian Irons was with the fellows getting high. While getting high, his heart stopped beating for eleven minutes. He slipped into a coma, and stayed in it for ten days. Due to the coma and heart stopping experience, his brain suffered a disastrous injury. Because of this brain injury, the nerves in his left leg had been damaged. For a total of 8 months, 3 different hospitals became his home.

Arsenal Soccer School In Dubai To Enable Pupils To Shoot For The Stars

Emirates has partnered with the Arsenal Soccer School in Dubai to enable pupils to shoot for the stars after being given a coaching master class by Gunners defender Mikael Silvestre.

The French international made a surprise visit to Emirates 7he Sevens at the Arsenal Soccer School Dubai during the first week of term to sign autographs and help out with the training drills. The 32-year-old gave advice to the aspiring footballers aiming to follow in his footsteps and play in the English Premier League, and he sees no reason why this can’t happen. He said: “This is great for the development of football in the UAE and a tremendous opportunity for the children who live here.

“The aim of the school is to give kids the chance to learn how to ‘Play the Arsenal Way’, the flowing, visionary style of football which is the hallmark of Arsene Wenger. The boss is world-renowned for his ability to nurture young talent and the coaching will be based on the same principles that he teaches us in the first team.

“With this platform, there is every chance that a kid from this school could become the first player from the Middle East to become an English Premier League star.”

One pupil who is already on her way to the Premier League is Nina Zammit Moore. The five-year-old, from Malta, and her father Jonathan won a trip to the Emirates Stadium to see her heroes play Chelsea on November 29, courtesy of the Emirates and Orbit Showtime competition.

Runner-up in the competition was nine-year-old Daniel Clamens, who won a free place on the school’s second term, which gets under way on 4 January.

Limited places are still available for the first 10-week term, with the choice of one or two sessions a week. Each session is between 60 to 75 minutes in duration. The school is open to boys and girls, with classes available in both Arabic and English. More than 1000 children – aged between five and 18 – will be trained each year. The first 10-week term kicked off on 5 October.

In addition to the children based in the UAE, Emirates will be opening up the opportunity to youngsters from around the world. With non-stop flights to Dubai provided by Emirates from six continents, parents will have the chance to relax while their kids enjoy coaching classes at a magnificent training facility.

A staggering 81% of golfers have said they don’t play as often as they would like because of the credit crunch, according to a new survey released by Rewards4golf.com

JD Sports Launches Ian Brown Competition

JD Sports has launched a competition that offers entrants the chance to win one of ten pairs of JD exclusive adidas Originals ZX750s signed by, former lead singer of The Stone Roses, Ian Brown. Competition entrants also have the chance to win one of ten copies of Brown’s sixth solo album, ‘My Way’, which was released 21 September 2009.

The cover of Brown’s latest album has a picture of the singer wearing a pair of JD exclusive adidas Originals ZX750s, so fans who already have the album will be familiar with the trainers.

Opus Energy Sponsors Two Employees To Run New York Marathon

Two employees of a Northampton based business, Opus Energy, a leading independent supplier of electricity to UK businesses, are aiming to raise £3000 for a local charity by running the New York Marathon on Sunday 1st November. Their challenge will form part of a wider pledge by Opus Energy to raise £10,000 for the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

Neil Robinson, a Credit Controller and Tanya Matchett, Credit Control Team Leader for Opus Energy are both novice runners and have never run competitively before.

The pair will be the 7th and 8th employees from Opus Energy to enter the New York marathon as part of an initiative that the company began in 2007. Each year, Opus Energy pays travel costs, hotels, and entry fees for the chosen employees, encouraging them to achieve a challenging personal goal, as well as raise funds for an important local cause.

Neil is preparing for the marathon by running four miles a day, three times a week, with a longer run at weekends. He achieved 14 miles last weekend and is increasing this distance gradually each week.

Neil said, “I’ve watched colleagues return from running the New York marathon for the last two years and talk about what an amazing experience they’ve had. I turned 40 this year and haven’t really pushed myself physically yet, so I wanted to take up the challenge. It’s a great opportunity to raise funds for a good cause and get fit in the process.”

Tanya has been hitting the gym and using a number of training strategies to prepare for the run.

Tanya said, “I’m a complete beginner – when I started I couldn’t even run to the end of my street! So I’ve had to go back to basics and learn a correct running technique with training sessions at the gym. Now I think I’ve caught the running bug – I’ve signed up for more running events, including another marathon next year. I really wanted to help Opus Energy achieve its targets for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice as it’s a great local cause.”

Australian Punters Install Melbourne Storm as Favourites for NRL Grand Final

The 2009 NRL Grand Final between the Melbourne Storm and the Parramatta Eels is being touted as the showdown of the fullbacks. The teams are represented by two of the competition’s most potent attacking players in Billy Slater and Jarryd Haynes. Billy Slater is in career best form, scoring eight tries in his last four games including a double last Saturday night in Melbourne’s impressive demolition of Brisbane Broncos. Jarryd Haynes has stamped himself one of the brightest stars in rugby league this season culminating in his winning the Dally M Award for NRL Player of the Year.

One of the best players in the competition in Storm centre, Greg Inglis, has been overshadowed by the form of Billy Slater, but will no doubt play an important part if Melbourne Storm is to triumph. Inglis is potentially one of the most dangerous players on the field, while other Storm players like halves combination of Cooper Kronk and Brett Finch can both find the try line. For Parramatta Eels, winger Eric Grothe and the club’s leading point scorer, Luke Burt will test the Melbourne defence.

Melbourne Storm approach this year’s NRL Grand Final with few injury worries. In contrast, Parramatta Eels’ captain, Nathan Cayless looked no chance of making the Grand Final when he limped off during their finals win against the Bulldogs last Friday night. Cayless will have an extensive fitness test on Saturday to decide whether he will take the field against Melbourne. The loss of Cayless would be a big blow to Parramatta as his leadership has been instrumental in their surge to the Grand Final.

Melbourne is a short priced favorite to win the game. “Grand Final Betting has been brisk, and is only going to get more frantic as we approach one of the most exciting finals in recent years,” said Dafydd Lewis, Betfair Australia’s spokesman.
