Raleigh Based Guide Service Climbs Into Asheville With Climbing Classes

Raleigh based rock climbing and ice climbing guide service and climbing school has expanded it’s climbing class offerings to climbers in Western NC by offering their Climb Outside Rock Climbing Class on September 26-27, 2009 at Looking Glass Rock NC.

These classes give people the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to begin rock climbing outside. Asheville is an ideal location for these classes because of the volume of climbing areas, and the volume of people who desire to learn how to climb outdoors but aren’t sure where to get started. Students learn anchor building, rope management, knot tying, belaying, rappelling, rescue, and more. The class consists of 2 full day sessions, where the first day will be spent teaching the skills, and the second day will be spent putting the newly acquired skills into practice. The classes are open to all experience levels, and all equipment is provided. SilverDoor Wins The Wooden Spoon In The ITM and TBTM Dragon Boat Race

SilverDoor and a mixture of Institute of Travel and Meetings (ITM) and The Business Travel Magazine (TBTM) members competed in the first ever hosted ITM and TBTM Dragon Boat Race. The race took place on the banks of the Thames at the Principal Hayley Oakley Court Hotel in Windsor. The SilverDoor Knockers team competed alongside 14 other teams in the race, coming last and winning the not so desirable prize of the wooden spoon.

The event, the first of what is hoped to become an annual event on the business travel calendar, was attended by over 250 people. Drawbridge provided shuttle transfers on the day from surrounding rail stations to the Oakley Court Hotel.

The Rotary Club of Amherst East will host Emanuel “Tiny” Yarbrough as its guest lunch speaker on Thursday, August 27. Anybody can attend the lunch meeting. Attendees must RSVP so that the club can reserve space.

Mr. Yarbrough is in Western New York to support a free children’s event in Buffalo the following day, hosted by Buffalo’s Belle Center. That event will feature Sumo wrestling demonstrations by the SumoKids Foundation and children from the Belle Center’s summer athletic program, as well as a presentation by Mr. Yarbrough.

Mr. Yarbrough is the Guinness Book of World Records’ “World’s Heaviest Professional Athlete” and a world champion Sumo wrestler. He also is an ambassador for the SumoKids Foundation, a Buffalo-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit that teaches children valuable life skills and morals through the tenets of Sumo wrestling. Sumo wrestling is a Japanese form of wrestling in which a fighter loses if forced from the ring or if any part of his body except the soles of his feet touches the ground.

The president of the Rotary Club of Amherst East, Robert Klingensmith, and the club’s president elect, Paul McAfee, both are on the Board of Directors of the SumoKids Foundation and provide pro bono support.

Mr. Yarbrough will talk about his life as an athlete, and his devotion to helping children lead healthy, active, lives.
