Texas Heat Lacrosse launched its first ‘Heat Elite’ for the 2011 high school lacrosse season

With the regular season winding down and teams fighting for playoff spots, Texas Heat Lacrosse launched its first ‘Heat Elite’ for the 2011 high school lacrosse season this week. The list, divided by upperclassmen and underclassmen, is compiled of the ‘best of the best’ in the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL). The lists are available at TexasHeatLacrosse.com/rankings/heat-elite.

“These are the top players to watch this season,” said Texas Heat Lacrosse Founder and CEO Jamie DeBole. “Players on this list have tremendous talent, determination and leadership. Some of the upperclassmen on this list have committed to big lacrosse colleges and universities and it just helps to show the growth of the sport in Texas.”

The lists are compiled from player performance statistics and coach nominations from around the league. It is set to be released annually.

“We are hoping it helps to spark a little extra motivation for the players each season, not only to make the ‘Heat Elite,’ but to be the best player they can be both on and off the field, as that is also taken into consideration,” said DeBole.

About Texas Heat Lacrosse: THL is a new community source for scores, standings and news on high school lacrosse in Texas. The organization is committed to expanding the Texas lacrosse fan base by raising awareness and appreciation of the sport throughout the state.

The National Trust Announces Partnership with Shred

The National Trust, the country’s biggest owner of outdoor spaces, has for the first time ever teamed up with a cycling team, Shred, in a new partnership for the 2011 season.

Throughout the season Shred, a well known UK mountain biking and road racing team based in the south west of England, will wear National Trust branded cycling kit and will be working closely with the Trust at a number of biking events over the coming months.

They will become ambassadors for the Trust’s countryside work as the organisation increasingly focuses on its outdoor spaces.

Jim Pascoe from the National Trust said: “We’re gearing up for a cracking year of cycling and the new link with the Shred team reflects the importance of getting more people on their bikes.

“We manage large swathes of stunning countryside and wonderful country estates and exploring these places by bike is the ideal way to experience the great outdoors and get that bit closer to nature.”

In the south west of England the Trust is involved in the 1SW project and is in the process of creating a new mountain biking trail centre on the outskirts of Plymouth and planning another one in Cornwall.

Steve Toze, team manager for Shred, added: “Teaming up with the National Trust for the 2011 season made lots of sense as they own the land where we can do the things close to our heart – riding, surfing, walking and camping.

GreenFree Celebrates 1,000th Course

Addition of further championship courses takes GreenFree past 1,000 course milestone and further underlines strength of the 2 for 1 golf vouchers scheme.

GreenFree, the home of 2-for-1 golf, has added further award-winning golf courses to its impressive portfolio, taking the number of courses where golfers can redeem their vouchers to the landmark figure of 1,000. Providing its voucher users with incredible value for money on green fees at an unrivalled number of venues throughout the UK and Ireland, the popular 2-for-1 scheme has recently added a host of championship courses to join the likes of The Belfry and Royal North Devon in the UK’s most widely used green fee voucher scheme.

Championship courses such as The Roxburghe in the Scottish Borders and Connemara Links in County Galway, Ireland, have helped GreenFree reach the milestone figure. In the South of England, The Wiltshire, designed by Peter Alliss, joins the likes of Mannings Heath Golf Club and the host venue of Tiger Woods’ triumph in the 2006 World Golf Championship, The Grove, to enhance the offering to golfers across the UK.

“We’re thrilled to welcome our 1,000th course to the GreenFree scheme, which just highlights the growing popularity of the scheme with golf clubs and avid golfers,” commented Dave Lynchehaun, GreenFree Brand Manager. “We have always been keen to ensure that the courses available on the scheme are not only affordable but also some of the best known venues in the country, and the latest clubs to join add further kudos to the scheme.”

GreenFree member clubs acknowledge the sales opportunity and marketing support offered by the UK’s premier 2-for-1 golf scheme

GreenFree, the home of 2-for-1 golf, has been lauded by leading golf clubs for the additional income that it helps generate for clubs across the UK and Ireland. With many golf clubs looking at ways to generate additional income in a difficult economic environment, and some experiencing declining membership numbers, GreenFree has been recognised for bringing in additional revenue through attracting visiting golfers with the offer of half price green fees at selected times.

A recent survey of over 16,000 golfers showed that GreenFree voucher users bring in an additional £36 per person on average in the golf shop and clubhouse, over and above the green fee. With the average green fee at nearly £29, that works out at around £65 per person, or £130 per 2-ball.

“Our association with GreenFree has enabled us to develop an important additional green fee revenue stream,” noted Iain Burns, Director of Golf, Marriot Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club.

“Being listed as a GreenFree venue and benefiting from the marketing activity has definitely increased Mottram Hall’s visibility on a national basis,” commented Tim Hudspith, Director of Golf, De Vere Mottram Hall. “There is no doubt that this has given us a competitive advantage locally when it comes to attracting visitors from a wider catchment area.”

Brian Connor, Head Professional Manchester Golf Club also added, “The beauty of the GreenFree scheme is that we have generated traffic on the days and times when the bulk of the membership doesn’t tend to play. The scheme allows us to set the rules so we are maximising our inventory without upsetting our members – a great win-win situation.”

Around 950 courses are available to GreenFree voucher holders, all of whom receive free marketing exposure via GreenFree’s website, directory and extensive email database. Much of the scheme’s success is based on member golf clubs being able to set their own restrictions, making it possible for traditional clubs to maintain their exclusivity. Certain times of the day or days of the week can be highlighted for GreenFree users, ensuring little disruption to the members’ experience and therefore a win/win for golfers and clubs alike.

A resounding success amongst golfers and golf clubs, GreenFree looks set to go from strength to strength in the coming season.

Top Picks from Extreme Element

Towards the end of last year, Extreme Element decided to help out those looking to buy extreme experiences as Christmas presents by publishing a list of the experiences that had been top-rated by their customers. While Christmas is now a distant memory, the experiences on that list are still just as relevant and exciting, and Extreme Element continues to offer them into 2011. Among the experiences listed are several with special offers attached. Some of the best are:

-Bungee jumping. Bungee jumping is an ever-popular extreme sport that is hard to beat for sheer adrenaline charged excitement. Extreme Element offer both tandem and solo bungee jumping, at a number of fantastic locations including next to Tower Bridge in London and the highest bungee jumps in Britain at Salford and Maidenhead.

-Indoor skydiving. Indoor skydiving uses a powerful air tunnel to simulate the conditions of a traditional outdoor skydive. Participants get a realistic experience during which they’ll ‘fall’ two miles, using technology designed to test formula 1 cars.

-Quad biking. Quad biking is a fun, accessible way to get into off-roading. Quad bikes can tackle nearly any type of terrain, so you can expect to travel through streams, up hills and across woodland.

-Zapcat rides. Zapcats are high powered speedboats which offer a fun and exciting extreme sports experience. Zapcats’ twin hulled construction and large outboard motor mean they’re capable of high speeds and tight turns that produce plenty of G force.

-Stock car championship racing day. This driving experience is one of the most popular of the many driving experiences that Extreme Element offer. The experience lasts a whole day and takes in several different challenges in different types of car.
